Switchgrass (Panicum virgatum L.) is a fast-growing, drought resistant and perennial grass, which is rich in lignocellulosic tissues. These properties make it a potential cellulosic biofuel feedstock. It is known that small RNAs such as microRNAs (miRNAs) play vital roles in regulating plant growth and development as well as responses to environmental changes. To study the potential role of miRNA regulation in switchgrass drought management and biofuel-related activities, twelve small RNAs libraries were constructed and sequenced from root, stem and leaf.
