VPRS 19221 Advisory Board for Medical Appointments, Minutes and Index to Minutes

This series comprises minutes of the Advisory Board of Medical Appointments and the Advisory Committee of Medical Appointments. The Committee and Board were formed in 1910 to elect honorary and salaried medical officers. Previously, honorary medical officers were elected by charitable subscribers elected honorary medical officers. The two bodies were responsible for appointing both honorary and salaried medical officers. The bodies also brought forward recommendations for honorary appointments of Medical Officers of University Departments attached to the hospital, so they could be involved in patient care. While the Board was responsible for appointing senior medical staff, the Advisory Committee was responsible for more junior medical appointments such as Associate Assistants, and Resident Medical Officers. In 1972 the Advisory Board was renamed the Medical Appointments Advisory Board. While the two Board and Committee often shared the same Chair, they usually had different sets of members and met on different days.
