Biotechnological potential of myxobacteria from the Brazilian marine environment

This project explores the vast and largely untapped biodiversity of the Brazilian coastline, often referred to as the Blue Amazon, to identify marine myxobacteria with high biotechnological value. By isolating strains from unique ecosystems such as mangroves and deep-sea sediments, the research aims to discover novel secondary metabolites with potent antimicrobial and antitumor properties. Beyond pharmacology, the project investigates the production of salt-tolerant enzymes for industrial use and employs genome mining to uncover new biosynthetic pathways. Ultimately, this study seeks to transform Brazils marine microbial wealth into innovative solutions for global health and sustainable industry.
