Isolation of the gramine biosynthetic genes

Some cultivars of barley accumulate gramine as a defensive secondary metabolite. Since the biosynthetic pathway of gramine has not been fully elucidated, we performed RNA-seq to identify the genes using cultivars and subspecies that differ in the ability of gramine production, and extracted the genes whose expression levels correlate with gramine accumulation.
