The intent of City of Prince George snow and ice control operations is to maintain municipal roads, sidewalks, civic facilities and parks in a passable condition. Snow and ice control services are not intended to eliminate all hazardous conditions on city roads, sidewalks, civic parking lots or parks at all times. They are intended to assist vehicles that are properly equipped for winter driving conditions and being operated in a manner consistent with good winter driving habits, and to assist pedestrians walking with care and attention to conditions. It is expected that under normal winter conditions, there will be situations when the immediate demand for snow and ice control services will exceed the available resources. In order to maximize the benefits of operations, snow and ice control forces shall conduct operations according to the following priorities: Priority 1 To be completed within 48 hours of the end of snow event. A. Arterial roads and curb-adjacent sidewalks. B. Downtown Central Business District roads, laneways, and sidewalks. C. The Hospital District. D. Major facility entrances, pedestrian surfaces, and daily parking areas. E. City off-street parking. Priority 2 To be completed within 48 hours of the end of snow event. All bus routes that are non main arterial roads, and all commercial/industrial roads A. Collector roads and curb-adjacent sidewalks. B. Priority hills. C. Commercial and industrial zoning roads, laneways, and curb-adjacent sidewalks. D. Transit bus routes that are not in Priority One routes. E. Transit bus stops along Priority One routes. Priority 3 To be completed within 72 hours after Priority 1 and Priority 2 are complete A. Residential roads, laneways, and designated sidewalks (lanes may be closed if impractical to plow). B. Minor facility entrances, pedestrian surfaces, and parking areas. C. Major park pathways, trails, and parking lots. D. Event parking areas (unless a major event is imminent, then priority is raised to clear before the event starts). Ministry of Transportation & Infrastructure Contractors Snow removal on these routes is completed by Ministry of Transportation & Infrastructure contractors as part of an exchange with the City of Prince George.
