In our study, Illumina sequencing was performed to obtain the transcriptome data of green and red-turning bracts of poinsettia. Combining with chemical analysis, the major pathways involved in poinsettia pigmentation metabolism were deduced and the candidate genes contributed to color transformation were examined. The results will shed light on the elucidation of molecular mechanism of pigmentation metabolism in plants and provide genic resources applied in genetic improvement of poinsettia.
