Alignment of mitochondrial genome, control region sequences and ND4 gene sequences of Crocodiles

This study investigates the population structure, history, and phylogenetic relationships of <i>Crocodylus porosus</i> and related species, including the extinct Seychelles crocodile. We sequenced mitochondrial genomes from several crocodile museum specimens and combined them with genetic data from modern samples to analyse the population structure of the saltwater crocodile, <i>Crocodylus porosus</i>, understand its history, and clarify the identity of the extinct Seychelles crocodile. We also examined the taxonomic status of the southern population of <i>Crocodylus novaeguineae </i>and sequenced the mitochondrial genomes of eleven museum specimens of <i>C. porosus, C. niloticus, C. palustris</i>, and <i>C. novaeguineae</i>, including the extinct Seychelles crocodile, for phylogenetic analysis of all <i>Crocodylus</i> species. Additionally, we analysed the mitochondrial control region for 187 and the ND4 region for 13 saltwater crocodiles across most of the species' range.
