Acyl- and aroylhydrazones of 1,3-diketones are an important class of compounds in terms of their tautomeric possibilities, and scientific interest in them continues to grow. Aroylhydrazones of ethyl 2,4-dioxopentanoate can exist in various tautomeric forms. Depending on the structural features of the dicarbonyl component, aroylhydrazones of β-diketones can exhibit ring–chain equilibrium between the open-chain hydrazone and enehydrazine forms and the cyclic 5-hydroxy-2-pyrazoline tautomer. Paired prototropic equilibria are observed for derivatives of 1,3-ketoesters.
