We are developing Rhodosporidium toruloides as a novel microbial cell factory for the production of high-value bioproducts, such as terpenes and terpenoids. We have an engineered strain (A29) producing amorphadiene by simple over-expression of a heterologous farnesyl pyrophosphate synthase (FPS) and an amorphadiene synthase (ADS). To further manipulate the genome to increase the production level, we investigated the global changes of gene expression as a result of terpene biosynthesis and accumulation by RNA sequencing.
