Samples from a possible hearth remnant at 5GA1219 and from a rock-filled basin hearth at
5GA2524 were analyzed for pollen and macrofloral remains. These sites are located in Grand
County in western Colorado. Site 5GA2524 appears to represent a late fall or early winter hunting
camp, and a conventional radiocarbon date of 1640 ± 80 BP (Beta-147164) indicates occupation
during the Late Prehistoric period. Pollen and macrofloral analyses, including identification of
charcoal, will provide information concerning possible plant resources processed in these features
and types of wood burned as fuel.
