Spatial transcriptomic study of gene expression in lungs from alpha-1 antitrypsin deficient (A1ATD) patients homozygous for the SERPINA1 Z allele (ZZ).

Using Geomx's Digital Space Profiling method for WTA RNA transcriptomics in lung, we assessed paraffin-embedded lung sections from six A1AT deficient patients (ZZ). After consenting, lung samples were collected from A1AT deficient patients from two Lung Biorepositories: uPenn and Baylor College of Medicine. Pathologist assessed lung samples were obtained from patients needing lung transplant. Lungs were fixed in formalin for 24 hours and subsequently embedded in paraffin. ROIs were collected from parenchyma, airway, vessel and lymphoid follicles.
