Benzene toxicity

Benzene is abundant air pollutant that has been associated with several diseases in particularly cardiovascular disease. Despite of known health risks, effects of benzene on cardiovascular health is not well studied. In this study, in a well-controlled animal model, we are characterizing how benzene influences cardiovascular system. Overall design: Forteen weeks old male C57Bl/6J mice on Normal Chow were exposed to 50ppm benzene (6hr/day, 5 days a week) for 6 weeks. Control group was exposed to carbon and HEPA filters purified air. Sequencing of mRNAs was performed on lungs and liver tissues of benzene exposed and air contol mice.
