资源简介:
we use newly assembled genomes of high altitude Tibetan and Himalayan canids to explore the evolutionary history of this of (charismatic) group. We find that Tibetan and Himalayan wolves are closely related to each other, with their mitochondrial genomes and as much as 38.9%-43.0% of their nuclear genomes derived from an as-yet unrecognized wolf-like lineage that diverged from extant Eurasian gray wolves, with the rest ancestry arose from dogs and lowland gray wolf. The EPAS1 haplotype, which confers an adaptive advantage to animals living at high altitudes and is present at high frequencies in in both Tibetan dogs and Tibetan wolves was probably derived from this ancient lineage. Our study highlights how multiple bouts of admixture shapes the evolutionary trajectories of species, including by introgression of potentially adaptive alleles.
