Under long-term fertilization conditions, the correlation analysis between rhizosphere soil microorganisms and DOM can help us to further understand the succession process of DOM. We observed significant negative correlation between DOM chemodiversity and microbial diversity, which is obviously contrast to the traditional diversity begets diversity hypothesis. The hypothesis diversity begets diversity predicts that higher resource diversity can provide wider habitat niche breadth for organisms and can therefore promote higher biodiversity, and this hypothesis has been tested in some aquatic ecosystems. The negative chemodiversity-biodiversity relationship in the current study suggest that the diversity begets diversity hypothesis may not work in some dynamic microenvironments such as plant rhizosphere, and the mechanisms underlying this needs to be revealed by future experiments.
