Data and model code: Beyond the Island Assumption: Vertical Integration of a European and a Sub-National Energy System Model for Germany

This dataset contains the model code, the input data, the linking script and the results of the study "Beyond the Island Assumption: Vertical Integration of a European and a Sub-National Energy System Model for Germany". The study links two models of the open-source framework GENeSYS-MOD: a European model, in which Germany is a single node, and a German model with its 16 federal states. In the linked runs, the cross-border flows of the European run are imposed on the German model from 2030 onwards (vertical integration). Two scenarios of the EU EnVis-2060 scenario set, NECP Essentials and Go RES, are each calculated as a European run, a stand-alone German run and a linked German run, from 2018 to 2060, with every 122nd hour of the year as a time slice. Files: Model.zip: GAMS code of GENeSYS-MOD 4.1 with the vertical integration, as run for the study. Inputdata.zip: input workbooks of the six runs and the GDX files made from them. Scripts.zip: the linking script, which builds the input of a linked run from a European run, with the route tables and the scripts it uses. Results.zip: result files of the six runs (GDX), merged.gdx and the CSV tables made from it. README.md: models, scenarios, linking script and run options.
