Diabetes mellitus predisposes patients to increased prevalence and severity of periodontal disease. Identifying the bacteriome associated with periodontitis in patients with and without diabetes mellitus may provide an insight in the effects of diabetes mellitus on the subgingival bacteriome and guide practitioners in choosing the most appropriate intervention for managing periodontal disease in patients with diabetes mellitus in Uganda . This study set out to describe the bacteriome associated with periodontitis in patients with and without diabetes mellitus in Uganda.
