Violacein is a naturally occurring violet pigment that has been established to have antioxidant, antileukemic, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial activities, among others. Chromobacterium violaceum is among the selected producers of this metabolite, and the isolated RS2B1 strain from Nag-aso Boiling Lake in Manito, Albay, Philippines, was further characterized in this study to optimize its pigment production by valorizing biowaste.
