Microbiota and Oral Mucositis in Allogeneic Transplantation: The MicOM study

In this prospective study of adults undergoing allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation with a planned myeloablative regimen, we used a validated comprehensive scoring system based on specialized Oral Medicine examinations to longitudinally quantify oral mucositis (OM) severity. High-throughput profiling of the oral microbiota using paired saliva, supragingival plaque, and subgingival plaque samples was performed in parallel. The relationship between the oral microbiota and OM severity and potential causal pathways were investigated.
