Microbial community profiling of hypersaline sulfidogenic sediments and derived enrichment culture from Chott el-Jerid (Tunisia)

This dataset includes 16S rRNA gene sequencing data for microbial communities from (i) sulfidogenic sediments collected from Chott el-Jerid, a hypersaline lake in southern Tunisia, and (ii) a halophilic microbial enrichment culture obtained from these sediments under hydrogenotrophic and sulfidogenic conditions. The enrichment was subsequently used as the inoculum for a bioelectrochemical system designed for hydrogen production. The aim of this study was to investigate microbial community shifts during selective enrichment and to identify microbial taxa potentially involved in bioelectrocatalytic hydrogen evolution under hypersaline, anaerobic conditions.
