N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) has long been used as anti-oxidative reagent to treat overdose of acetaminophen. Researchers have proved that NAC is capable of alleviating metabolic syndrome. Considering that gut microbiota plays a critical role in development of metabolic syndrome and diabetes, and little evidence showed the relationship between NAC and gut microbiota, we are trying to explain the anti-diabetic effect of NAC from the aspect of gut microbiota. In this study, we built metabolic syndrome model by feeding mice with high fat diet, and measured the changes of gut microbiota after NAC treatment.
