Strategic metals co-occurring in coal measures are characterized by complex metallogenic mechanisms and diverse occurrence states. In-depth research on their distribution rules and enrichment mechanisms is a prerequisite for realizing the effective evaluation and utilization of such resources. To address these fundamental geological issues, the project conducted studies on the mineralogical and geochemical characteristics of strategic metals in the typical coalfields of Jincheng (Shanxi Province) and Daqingshan (Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region), revealing the distribution rules and occurrence mechanisms of various strategic metals in coal measure strata. This dataset systematically collects experimental test data of strategic metals in coal measures, including U-Re-Se-Mo in No.15 coal seam of the Taiyuan Formation, Li and Ga in No.3 coal seam of the Shanxi Formation from Jincheng Coalfield, as well as Nb-Ta-Zr-Hf-REE in Datanhao Coal Mine of Daqingshan Coalfield. The main data types are as follows: proximate analysis data of coal (moisture, ash, volatile matter, etc.), quantitative coal petrological and mineralogical data, content data of major element oxides and trace elements, mineral occurrence characteristic data obtained via scanning electron microscope with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), and ion image data of specific elements (Al, Si, Li, Fe, Mg and Na) in selected regions of polished thin sections acquired via time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS). The data were collected from December 2021 to November 2025 at test bases including the State Key Laboratory of Coal Precise Exploration and Intelligent Development of China University of Mining and Technology (Beijing) and the National Large-scale Scientific Instrument Center - Beijing Electronic Spectroscopy Center. The sample data included in this dataset are generated through laboratory analysis after systematic on-site sampling, and obtained via methods such as standard coal quality analysis, inorganic geochemical testing and advanced micro-area analysis techniques. All testing procedures strictly follow relevant test specifications and operating procedures, ensuring the authenticity and reliability of the data. The total size of this dataset is 16.5 MB.
