We present the genome of Brevibacterium linens MA5, a strain isolated from the rind of Danish Danbo cheese. MA5 exhibits high proteolytic activity and rapid growth on cheese rinds, producing a dense orange pigmentation, which is a desirable trait for smear cheese ripening and its genome sequence differs from previously reported B. linens strains.
