The purpose of the present study was to obtain targeted samples and data from 40 patients with malignant melanoma and planned or existing checkpoint inhibitor therapy. The study objectives were defined as follows: (1) To analyze the influence of the gut microbiota of 40 patients with malignant melanoma on the specific activation of T cells and associated antitumor effect under checkpoint inhibitor therapy, (2) identification of the group of bacteria relevant for a microbiota-associated antitumor effect, and (3) identification of microbiota constellations associated with an increased rate of side effects of checkpoint inhibitor therapy.
