Unraveling anaerobic metabolisms in hypersaline sediment

Our group investigates the microbial diversity of the saline Salitral Negro (LaPampa, Argentina) for years, focusing in this case on the community of respiratorsanaerobic substances present in the sediment, in order to identify the electronic acceptors that canuse and the ecological associations that can occur as a function of these metabolisms. . Growth was obtained with all the acceptors used, with very doubling times.different. With nitrate the highest speed was achieved, followed by fumarate. The development ofother cultures was lower, measured both by their doubling time and by absorbancemaximum reached. Archaea and bacteria were found in all consortia, including somenot previously described as respirators of the substrates in which they were detected in thisjob.
