资源简介:
This data refers to a study investigating thermal recovering of Thoroubred racehorses.
The use of thermography in field conditions require to stablish environmental control, which is not easy to perform. In the present study, we wanted to revisit information on how much time should we wait to do a thermographic examination after a horse had exercised. A previous study, produced by Simon et al. (2006) affirmed that exercise did not influenced thermography after 45 minutes of exercising. The guidelines of the American Association of Thermology (2022) says that the examiner should wait at least two hours, but this information is still not clear. Experiencing field conditions raises the doubt if this information would be valid for different climate conditions, type of exercise and even horses’ breed and discipline. Then, specifically to the racehorse, the present study tested the hypothesis that, after exercising, superficial body temperature could be higher than initially even after 2 hours. At the end, the study evidenced that even after 3 hours, superficial body temperature, investigated by thermographic examination of different limb regions, was higher than initially, independent of climate. In this study, few control horses were maintained inside their barns throughout the experiment period and their body temperature was compared with exercised horses.
