Probing the magnetic ordering in Chromium-based perovskite oxide thin films: SrCrO3 and LaCrO3

In the field of transition metal oxides, almost all 3d transition metals have been the topic of countless studies. However, the chromium family remains only vaguely explored. In this proposal, we suggest investigating the debated magnetic properties of SrCrO3 and LaCrO3 epitaxial thin films as a function of strain. SrCrO3 is suggested to be a metallic antiferromagnet whereas LaCrO3 appears to be insulating and antiferromagnetic with a spin canting. We intend to carry out XMLD and XMCD measurements to further prove the antiferromagnetic state of SCO thin films at different strain states. For LCO thin films, we plan to study the spin canting by performing XMCD measurements.
