whole genome sequencing and structural genomics of black pepper (Piper nigrum L.)

Black pepper is an important spice crop of medicinal and culinary importance. We have sequenced the genome to bring out the uniqueness of the genes in this particular crop.The goal of the project is to identify genes for oleo-resin and aromatic compound synthesis to address it's medicinal properties .No information is yet available on markers usable for marker assisted selection and breeding in this crop.
