Microbiome modifications by steroids during viral exacerbation of asthma

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is one of the most common pathogens identified in adults admitted to intensive care units due to respiratory disease The present study focuses on whether RSV exacerbation of a chronic lung disease like allergic asthma alters the lung and gut microbiome in a murine model of allergic asthma and whether a common inhaled steroid (fluticasone) that may improve clinical disease may also alter gut and lung microbiome.
