EXAMINATION OF BULK SOIL, IDENTIFICATION OF DETRITAL CHARCOAL, AND AMS RADIOCARBON AGE DETERMINATION OF MATERIAL COLLECTED ALONG THE MIDDLE FORK FEATHER RIVER, CALIFORNIA

One bulk soil sample and two detrital charcoal samples were examined to recover organic fragments suitable for radiocarbon age determination. These samples were recovered from fluvial terraces along the Middle Fork Feather River and from glacial till exposed above Jamison Creek in the Mohawk Valley, northeastern California. The botanic components and detrital charcoal were identified, and the potentially radiocarbon-datable material was separated. A total of four radiocarbon dates were obtained on one charcoal item, one charred item, one incompletely and partially charred item, and one uncharred botanic item from these samples.
