Kulliyyât-i-Amîr Khusrau. This manuscript is now IO Islamic 1187 in the India Office collections. [metadata: Hermann Ethé, Catalogue of Persian Manuscripts in the Library of the India Office, 2 vols. (Oxford: India Office, 1903): volume 1, number 412 here with notations and hyperlinks]. 1187 Another copy of the same. This copy of Amîr Khusrau’s Kulliyyât is much younger than the preceding one, but considerably richer in contents. It consists of the following parts: A.Centre-columns. 1.Tuḥfat-alṣighar (تحفة الصغر), or the poems of youth, the first of Amîr Khusrau’s dîwâns, which was complete about A.H. 670 or 671 (A.D. 1272), with a preface in prose. Beginning of the preface, on fol.1b: حمدى كه از اوّل زادن زاد وجود بود و تناى كه از شير خوراگى الخ. Beginning of the poetry, on fol. 4b: خداى عزّ و جل ذو الجلال كن فيكون برى زحيرت و مستغنى از چرا وچون It consists of ḳaṣidas, ḳiṭ’as (beginning on fol. 48b), and a short mathnawî, which begins on fol. 50b:هى هى اى تيره راى الخ; other copies are described in Rieu ii. pp. 609b and 613a, and A. Sprenger, p. 467. 2.Wasaṭ-alḥayât (وسط الحيات), or poems of middle life, the second of Amîr Khusrau’s dîwâns, which was completed about A.H. 685 (A.D. 1286), with a preface in prose. Beginning of the preface, on fol. 55b: بفضل الله قد سطرت هذه الصفحات و جعلتها واسطة لبقاء الذات بعد الممات الخ. Beginning of the poetry, on fol. 63b: حمد رانم بر زبان لله ربّ العالمين الخ; see the preceding copy , No. 3.This diwân consists of ḳaṣîdas, tarkîbbands (beginning on fol. 123b), and ḳiṭ’as (on fol. 139b). Blanks on fol. 83. Other copies are described in Rieu ii. pp. 610a and 613a; Bodleian Cat., No. 753, and A. Sprenger, Catal., pp. 467 and 468. 3.Ghurrat-alkamâl (غرّة الكمال), or the poems of maturity, the third of Amîr Khusrau’s dîwâns, see Nos. 1. And 2 in the preceding copy; the preface begins here thus, on fol. 145b:غرّۀ كمال انسانى از ديباچۀ احمد (حمد read) مخترع است الخ. Beginning of the poetry, on fol. 194b: چه (؟ چو) زهره خاك مسكين را الخ, agreeing with the second ḳaṣîdah of this dîwân in the preceding copy. It contains ḳaṣîdas, tarkîbbands (on fol. 292a sq.), and ḳiṭ’as (on fol. 302a sq.). A blank on fol. 149a. 4.Baḳiyya-i-naḳiyyah (بقيّۀ نقيّه), or the poems of old age, the fourth of Amîr Khusrau’s dîwâns, completed A.H. 718 (A.D. 1318), with a preface in prose. Beginning of the preface, on fol. 317b: حمدى كه بقيّۀ نقيّۀ حيوة در تحرير آن بر جرائد وجود بشمار آيد و ثناى حليه الخ. Beginning of the poetry, on fol. 328a: زبان كه بر در معنى كليد گفتار است زبهر شکر و سپاس یکی جهاندار است This dîwan (which is called in A. Sprenger, Catal., نقيّۀ بقيّه, and in Cat. des MSS. et Xylographes كتاب بقيّه و نقيّه) contains ḳaṣîdas, tarkîbbands (on fol. 377a sq.), short mathnawîs (on fol. 385b sq.), ḳiṭ’as (on fol. 390a sq.), and a very extensive collection of ghazals, followed by a series of rubâ’îs. The ghazals (which have here the special heading of بقيّۀ نقيّه) are arranged alphabetically, except the first twelve poems, and begin, on fol. 407b: اى زخيال ما برون در تو خيال كى رسد با صفت تو عقل را لاف كمال كى رسد This initial poem is the first ghazal of the غرّة الكمال or third dîwân in Nos. 754 and 755 of the Bodleian Cat., and of the various selections from Khusrau’s dîwâns and ghazals in Nos. 760 and 763-765 of the same; it appears likewise as beginning in the general collections, described in W. Pertsch, Berlin Cat., pp. 714, 831, and 832, and in J. Aumer, p. 21. The rubâ’îs begin, on fol. 824b: پاکست خداوند كريم اكبر الخ, likewise agreeing with the initial quatrain in the third diwân in Nos. 754 and 755 of the Bodleian Cat., and in the general collection, No. 758, of the same. Blanks on ff. 323, 341, 489b, 611, and 629; a lacuna besides after fol. 781. Other copies of this dîwân are described in Rieu ii. pp. 610b and 613a; Bodleian Cat., No. 756; A. Sprenger, Catal., p. 468; W. Pertsch, Berlin Cat., p. 833, and Cat. des MSS. et Xylographes, p. 351. These four dîwâns have been printed, lucknow, 1874. The fifth dîwân, styled نهاية الكمال, and containing poems of the last years of Amîr Khusrau’s life (see Rieu ii. p. 613b, and Bodleian Cat., No. 757), is Not found in the India Office Collections. B.Margin-column. 5.Maṭla’-alanwâr (مطلع الانوار), on fol. 1b, beginning: خطبۀ قدسست بملك قديم – بسم الله الرّحمن الرّحيم see No.6 in the preceding copy. Fol. 83 is left blank. 6.Khusrau u Shîrîn (خسرو و شيرين), on fol. 97b, beginning as in No. 7 of the preceding copy. Fol. 149 left blank. 7.Lailâ u Majnûn ( ليلى و مجنون), on fol. 217a beginning as in No. 8 of the preceding copy. 8.Hasht Bihisht (هشت بهشت), on fol. 292b, beginning as in No. 9 of the preceding copy. 9.Â’îna-i-Iskandarî (آئينۀ اسكندرى), on fol. 391a, beginning as in No. 10 of the preceding copy. The greater part of fol. 489b is left blank, but there seems to be no interruption in the text. 10.Ḳirân-alsa’dain (قران السعدين), on fol. 520b, beginning as in No. 5 of the preceding copy. 11.Nuskha-i-Khiḍrkhânî (نسخۀ خضرخانى), i.e. Ḳiṣṣa-i-Khiḍrkhân u Duwalrânî ( قصّۀ خضرخان و دولرانى), or as the author himself styles it: Duwalrânî Khiḍrkhân (دولرانى خضرخان), see Rieu ii. p. 612b, the love-story of Khiḍrkhân, son of Sulṭân ‘Alâ-aldîn Muḥammadshâh Khiljî (reigned A.H. 695-715 or 716 =A.D. 1296-1316, see No. 2 in the preceding copy), with Duwalrânî, the daughter of the Râjab of Gujarârt, completed A.H. 715, 6th of Dhû-alḳa’dah (A.D. 1316, Feb.1). It is often merely called قصّۀ خضر خانى, كتاب خضر خانى, or even خضرخانى, and also bears the title of ‘Ishḳiyyah (عشقيّه), see below, No. 1216. Beginning, on fol. 623a: سر نامه بنام آن خداوند كه دلها را بخوبان داد پيوند Ff. 629 (partly), 646a-653b, and 678a-701a are left blank. Comp. on this poem Rieu ii. pp. 612, 617, and 618; Bodleian Cat. Thomas, Pathan Kings, p. 176. 12.Nuh Sipihr (نُه سپهر), or the nine spheres, another mathnawî which gives a poetical description of the court of Ḳuṭb-aldîn Mubârakshâh Khiljî (who was killed A.H. 720 or 721=A.D. 1320 or 1321, see col. 320 in this Cat.), and of certain events of his reign. It was completed end of Jumâdâ II, A.H. 718 (A.D. 1318, Aug. 28), comp. Rieu ii. p. 612b; Bodleian Cat., No. 776, and Elliot’s History of India, iii. p. 557. Where an analysis of the poem is given. Beginning, on fol. 701b: خدا را كنم بر سر نامه ياد كه بر بنده درهاى معنى گشاد It breaks off on fol. 781b in consequence of a lacuna. 13.Miftâḥ-alfutûḥ, incomplete at the beginning, in consequence of the same lacuna; the first bait which appears here, on fol. 782a: همى زد تيره سر برآسمانها ستاره چشم ميزد بر سنانها corresponds to the first distich on fol. 483a margin in the preceding copy. 14.A series of short mathnawîs, containing poetical descriptions of various kinds; the first, on fol. 798a, is headed:اين نامه بر كسيست كه جانرا زدوستيش حلّ كرده ام بآتش و بنوشته اين مقال (supplied from No. 2073, 1192 in this Cat.), and begins: اين نامه كه جان درو سرشتم هر حرف بخون دل نبشتم corresponding to the first mathnawî in the third dîwân of the Bodleian Cat., No. 754, fol. 216a; the second, on fol. 805b, is headed: اين بيتهاى قصر كه مهر خانه كرد رغبت درو در آيد و بيرون رود چنان. Other headings on ff. 806b, 811b, 813a (bis), 813b, 814b, 815a, 815b, and 817b; the last of these mathnawîs concludes on fol. 825a; the remaining leaves are left blank. This copy is dated the 2nd of Rabî’-alawwal, A.H. 1008 (A.D. 1599, Sept. 22). A fihrist on the fly-leaf. No. 412, ff. 845, 2 centre-coll., each ll. 19, and a third on the margin of ff. 1-825, ll. 38; clear and distinct Nasta’lîḳ; illuminated frontispiece; size, 9¾ in. by 5¾ in.
