Personalisation and content recommendation algorithms have become deeply integrated into the daily lives of Chinese Internet users. However, the algorithmically infused society has led to issues such as polarisation, biased pricing, and the spread of false information. Therefore, it is important to measure and evaluate the levels of algorithm literacy among social media users. [Method/Process]This study examines the levels of algorithmic literacy of Chinese social media users through a novel combination of quantitative and qualitative methods. Quantitative data was collected through distributing surveys online, with a total of 853 valid questionnaires collected. Qualitative data was collected through focus group interviews with 15 social media users. The study first conducted factor analysis and regressions to explore the conceptual dimensions and influencing factors of algorithmic literacy. Qualitative analysis of in-depth interviews with algorithm users revealed challenges algorithm users encountered and the strategies they adopt to cope.
