This dataset presents the results of laboratory investigation of the deformation mechanisms inside the contact zone between sand and corrugated sinusoidal surfaces. The data include: (1) mechanical results from sand shearing in two types of direct shear apparatus, (2) Mechanical data obtained from laboratory shear tests on medium and coarse sand against sinusoidal corrugated surfaces using a modified direct shear apparatus with different surface profiles, and (3) digital photographs of the contact zone between sand and sinusoidal corrugated surfaces recorded during shearing in a modified direct shear apparatus for different surface profiles used for DIC analysis. The tests were conducted on medium-dense sand under a constant confining pressure of 48 kPa. During the study, six different surface geometries were analyzed. Photographs were recorded at intervals of 0.06 mm of frame movement.
