Profile of Visitors to Tompkins County, 2009

<p>This study was commissioned by the Tompkins County Legislature's Strategic Tourism Planning Board in 2008 and conducted by Chumura Economics & Analytics in 2009. It was composed of the following surveys: an intercept survey conducted at high-traffic locations in the Ithaca area; a telephone survey of Tompkins County households; a student intercept survey administered to Cornell University and Ithaca College students; a self-administered survey of visitors conducted at two Ithaca Visitors Bureau locations. A separate survey of innkeepers is not included in this dataset. Survey respondents were asked about sites visited, purpose and length of their visit, information sources used to prepare for the visit, mode of travel to the area, estimated per day expenditures, other destinations during the visit. Household and student surveys asked the number and length of stay of overnight guests hosted.</p>
