VPRS 3340 Index to Probates and Administrations Issued [Microform]

This series comprises two microform copies of indexes compiled to access various Probate and Administration Files and Wills (VPRS 27, VPRS 28, VPRS 7591 and VPRS 7592). These indexes were compiled from various sources including VPRS 262 Index to Probates and Administrations Issued and VPRS 20692 Register of Probates and Administrations Issued II. The microfilm version in consignment P0000 was compiled and used by the Probate Office to facilitate access to Probate and Administration files and Wills issued between 1841 and 1959. The microfilm was produced by PROV on behalf of the agency to facilitate public access to records already in PROV custody. The microfiche version in consignment P0002 was later compiled by Macbeth Genealogical Services for use by the Probate Office and includes an output from the Office's first computerised system SCORPION for the files issued between 1970 and 1992. The fiche version, which spans 1841 to 1992, was the main tool by which Wills and Probate records were accessed until the online index was compiled by PROV in the early 2000s. The original index created to access files from 1841 to 1853 is not in PROV custody, making this copy the only version in state archives as of 2024.
