The data contains global Voluntary Observing Ships (VOS) and buoy observations from original FM-13 and FM-18 GTS transmissions, encoded into Binary Universal Form for the Representation (BUFR) by the UK Met Office Real Time Monitoring Centre, with additional model field comparisons for enhanced quality control. The UK National Oceanography Centre (NOC) is expanding an existing archive record at NCDC to extend the period of record back to January 2000 and through July 2012 during a period when NCDC was not receiving the files directly from the UK Met Office. The data contain point observations and provide global coverage.
