Microbiome of medically controlled type-2 diabetes

The objective of this study is to characterize the oral microbiome of type 2 diabetes mellitus patients from Portugal using metagenomics. The oral microbiome of 22 participants with type 2 diabetes mellitus and 25 healthy subjects was examined using the hypervariable V3-V4 region of 16S rRNA gene amplicon. We investigated the oral microbiome composition and its diversity intra and inter individuals. This study is the first to provide the taxonomic composition of Portuguese type 2 diabetes patients.
