Replication Data for: Can the Party in Power Systematically Win a Majority in Close Legislative Elections? Evidence from U.S. State Assemblies

The folder contains all files that are needed to replicate tables and figures in the paper, “Can the Party in Power Systematically Win a Majority in Close Legislative Elections? Evidence from U.S. State Assemblies,” published in the Journal of Politics. Data input files are stored in: - analysis/dta - analysis/raw data - analysis/python - analysis/templates Output files are stored in: - analysis/graphs - analysis/regressions - analysis/tables All figures and tables can be generated by running the do file: - analysis/do/precisecontrol_JP.do Before running the do file, following two STATA ado files need to be placed insider the user’s ado file directory: - analysis/do/DCdensity.ado - analysis/do/binplot.ado The personal STATA directory for ado files can be found by typing sysdir command in STATA window. Before running you need to change the "cd" command in analysis/do/precisecontrol_JP.do to point to the analysis folder. These replication files were verified to work under STATA/MP 15.1 (latest version as of 1 Mar 2020)
