POLLEN ANALYSIS OF SIX SITES NEAR BODO CANYON, SOUTHERN COLORADO

Six archaeological sites in the vicinity of Bodo Canyon south of Durango,
Colorado were sampled for pollen in conjunction with archaeological
mitigation. The structures were sampled in an effort to collect subsistence
data relating to the exploitation of native and cultivated vegetal resources
at these sites. A sampling design was employed to study the distribution of
pollen from economically important plants across two of the pithouse floors.
The sites vary in age from Basketmaker II through late Baksetmaker III/early
Pueblo I occupations. Evidence of differences in the exploitation of plants
between these periods of occupation was sought in the palynological record.
