Ambiguity Removal from the Cassini Radar Rings Observations

This paper describes a set of Cassini radar data collected on Saturn’s rings in the last year of operations when the spacecraft was flown very close to the ring system. After de- scribing the observing geometry, real aperture backscatter results are presented which reveal many of the interesting features of the ring system. There is potential for higher resolution results from these data, but first, the problem of range ambiguities present in the data needs to be handled. An algorithm for ambiguity removal based on solving a singular value decomposition is presented.
