资源简介:
This repository contains the data and codes needed to reproduce all figures in the publication: "Dissipation in rapidly rotating fluid spheres caused by weak longitudinal libration" submitted for review on (2024-07-15). Also includes the linear numerical code used for the results with an example of its use.
Summary of publication: Planetary bodies with non-spherical mass distributions are subject to gravitational torques from their orbital companions. One influence of these torques is a modulation of the rotation rate of the planet, known as longitudinal libration. For a planet with a fluid interior, the solid outer layer undergoes libration independently, and drag forces drive a flow in the fluid. We investigate the dissipation in linear flows driven by small amplitude longitudinal librations in a rapidly rotating fluid sphere. We use analytic and numerical methods to solve the linearized problem in the frequency domain. We show that the dissipation depends on the frequency of the libration, is mainly the result of friction at the fluid-solid interface, and is reduced for specific frequencies that match inertial modes.
