Two of four MR1-restricted clones were stimulated by the epitope presented by A549 cells. The responsive clones expressed TRBV 4-2 or TRBV 20-1 and the unresponsive clones expressed TRBV 6-4 or TRBV 20-1 and all were responsive to M. smegmatis-infected A549 cells. The authors concluded that MAIT cells can discriminate between MR1-restricted ligands.
