Abstract: This research examined the connection between pupils’ disposition and performance in Yoruba oral poetry among public primary school students in Ona-Ara Local Government Area, Oyo State. A survey research design was employed, with 250 primary five pupils selected randomly from five public schools (50 pupils per school). Data collection utilized a Yoruba Oral Poetry Questionnaire (reliability coefficient = 0.81) and a Yoruba Oral Poetry Achievement Test (reliability coefficient = 0.82). Results indicated a significant positive relationship (r = .66, p < 0.05) between attitude and performance. Pupils with favorable dispositions scored higher (mean = 42.9) than those with unfavorable dispositions (mean = 16.8). Influencing factors included interest in Yoruba culture, instructional methods, and parental encouragement. The study highlights the importance of fostering a positive attitude to enhance performance in Yoruba oral poetry. It recommends innovative teaching approaches, cultural relevance, and parental involvement to improve pupils’ engagement and achievement.
