date of platelet-rich plasma and hyaluronic acid for Injection treatment of temporomandibular joint degeneration in Affiliated Stomatological Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University

60 patients were randomly divided into 4 study groups: HA(20 patients/group) or PRP (10 patients/group) was injected into the upper or lower TMJ space.    All participants got 750 mg glucosamine hydrochloride (Aotailing, Bright Future Pharmaceutical Lab, China), 2 times a day for 1.5 months, and a stabilization splint 10 hours a day for 2.5 months.   The injection was applied by one senior TMJ specialist with intra-articular injection into the superior or inferior space of TMJs, once every 2 weeks for 3 times.    2% lidocaine was injected and aspirated to anesthetize and wash out the joint space。TMJ CBCT examination was performed before and 3 months after treatment.  A 0-3 scale was used to define the severity of condyle injury at initial diagnosis, including sagittal and coronal flattening, erosion, osteophytes, sclerosis, and cysts, with a total score ranging from 0 to 26.  After treatment, the treatment effect was assessed by remodeling assessment.  Slices matching before were selected for the evaluation of radiographic changes of TMJ degeneration.  The total remodeling score was evaluated by summarizing the remodeling scores in sagittal and coronal positions at different remodeling changes, ranging from -10 to 26. A positive score (1-26) indicates restorative remodeling, while a negative score indicates continued degenerative changes.
