资源简介:
The Police Superannuation Board was established by 1873, to consider applications for pensions and gratuities from police force members, and forward its recommendations to the Chief Secretary. The decisions were made in accordance with particular sections of the Police Regulations Act 1873 and subsequent amendments. A police officers entitlement gratuity or pension depended on their age, length of time in Police Force, and nature of departure. This series contains a register that records the name, rank, number, age and length of service of the police officer, and the nature of their departure (i.e. resignation or discharged), and a reference to the section under the Act that the decision was accorded to.The series also contains case files which documents the proceedings of each case heard, the final decision, and the circumstances that lead to that decision. Most decisions are attributed to Sections 20, 21, 25 and 26 of the Act.Section 20 relates to members of the force who have attained the age of fifty five who were discharged after ten years of service.Section 21 relates to members under the age of fifty who resigned due to sickness or had died through causes other than those attributed to police work.Section 25 relates to members above the age of forty who retired after twenty years of service.Section 26 relates to members who were died whilst on duty, and gratuities paid out to next of kin. A separate list is provided within this series that details all members who had died up until 1912 while in duty. The cause of death, and the gratuities that were paid out to next of kin was also provided.
