Different effects of wastewater on bacterial communities in river and lake sediments

River and lake sediments were collected from the Xiushui River and the adjacent Bang Lake in September 2023.Within one week, the collected sediment was packed into 30 cylindrical containers (10 cm diameter, 35 cm height), and five treatment groups were established to simulate the effects of treated wastewater: (1) control with supplemented natural river water; (2) farmland wastewater; (3) aquaculture wastewater; (4) municipal wastewater; and (5) industrial wastewater. Wastewater was added periodically to maintain a sediment flooding depth of approximately 15 cm. All wastewater was sourced from the upper reaches of Poyang Lake (Table S1). Sediment samples were collected from each treatment group 180 days after incubation, after which each sample was divided into two portions.
