Training in the 1930s on board the TS California State, the training vessel of the California Nautical School (established 1929). San Francisco harbor is one of the locations. Training taking place is: azimuth compass use, long boat launching, maneuvering, and rowing, guard duty, manual of arms drill, mustering, boarding and disembarking from ship, and docking. People present: Captain Emile Topp, executive officer M.E. Crossman, and chief engineer R.C. Dwyer. Also included is footage of a coati (and a dog) on deck; also footage of the cadets on board Velero III. People present: Captain Allan Hancock, first officer W. Charles Swett, et al. “California State school ship” -- container. Parts of the film are left-right reversed.
