Cassava carotenoid traits study

The objective was to identify the genes involved in carotenoid accumulation in cassava tubers. The majority of cassava tubers are white in colour and do not contain provitamin-A carotenoids. Some genotypes have been observed to produce tubers with visible pigmentation and the presence of carotenoid compounds. Nevertheless, the mechanisms underlying carotenoid accumulation in cassava tubers remain elusive. The transcription of functional genes involved in the carotenoid biosynthetic pathway does not provide insight into this phenomenon. Therefore, transcriptomic studies on cassava characters are still being conducted.
