Activated sludge samples were subjected to enrichment in medium that contained nicotine as a sole carbon source in order to identify novel nicotine metabolizing organisms. Pseudomonas is a known nicotine degrading genus and multiple novel Pseudomonas genomes were recovered from the enrichment cultures. This study broadens the genetic diversity of known nicotine degrading Pseudomonas strains.
