VPRS 11952 Premier's Briefing Papers on Specific Issues in Cabinet Submissions, Cain/Kirner Government

This series comprises manilla folders containing loose briefing papers on specific issues for Cabinet submission during the period of the government led by John Cain and Joan Kirner between 1982-1992. There are three different types of briefing papers within these folders: -- briefing papers for Cabinet meetings -- briefing papers for the Premier on submissions to be raised in Cabinet meetings and -- briefing papers or correspondence for the Premier from government agencies, for example briefings on non Cabinet meetings. The folders contain a mixture of duplicate and original documentation and have been frequently annotated. Many of the briefing papers for Cabinet appear to be copies of the original papers, which are in VPRS 11951 Agenda and Premier's Briefing Papers, Cain Kirner Government. Judging from the contents, it would appear that these folders were created for the Premier. The folders were probably created and maintained within the Cabinet Office as these were found intermingled between the various Cabinet records of the Governments of John Cain and Joan Kirner when these records were transferred to PRO custody. It is unclear whether similar files pertaining to other issues were created.
