Dataset for Sero-epidemiological Study of Bovine Herpesvirus-1 in Cattle Around Jimma, Ethiopia (2025)

Bovine herpesvirus-1 (BoHV-1) is a viral disease affecting cattle worldwide, causing respiratory illness and reproductive problems such as abortion and infertility. In this study of 349 dairy cattle from 39 herds, 14.57% of animals and 61.53% of herds tested positive for BoHV-1 antibodies. Purchased cattle and cows with a history of abortion or infertility were at higher risk of infection. These results highlight the significant impact of BoHV-1 on cattle reproduction and emphasize the need for biosecurity, screening of new animals, and vaccination to control its spread.
